RVing Life—The Shower from Hell

Don't get me wrong. I love RVing but there are a few things I'd rather do at home. One is taking a shower. I guess in one of those big Class A buses, it would be fine, but in our little class B, it's a chore. First, there is barely enough room to turn around in the bathroom and adjusting the water with the sprayer head isn't the easiest of chores. But, when you're washing your hair and the gray water tank is full and backing up in the stall, you've got a problem.

So, I holler for Larry. With flashlight in hand he heads outside to empty the gray water. Meanwhile, I'm afraid to turn on the water, shampoo is running into my eyes and burning, and I don't have anything to wipe my eyes with. So, I grab the little hand towel and smear the soap over my face making matters worse. I am one unhappy camper. Finally the gray water is emptying from the shower floor, and I can resume my shower.

Lesson learned—never get in the shower without checking the gray water level first. Beings we're a small RV, our gray water holding tank is only 12-15 gallons.

FYI—we have three tanks—one for fresh water, one for gray water, and one for black water.  Please note, the black doesn't mix with the gray. If it does, you've got real problems.

Thanks for stopping by. I'd love for you to leave a comment about your camping experiences

Happy Reading and Writing!

  2. But your RV is soooo cute. No, we never did this. We did toy with it for a long time, mainly because a lot of friends did. But...in the end we never did. Instead, we spent our money on European tours, and then home, all kinds of tours to Natl Parks, etc. and all kinds of places in the US and Canada, and Mexico.
Very nice. Still, I always wanted to see the RVs other had..and always said Oh, aren't those grand. But no, we made out choice. Still..I love your RV! I've seen a couple in town, and think...oh, that's what Linda has!!!

    1. Well, it's not for everyone. When we were younger we had a travel trailer with a full bath for the kids. I loved it, but it would be too much for Larry to set up now, etc. at our age. The little one is enough work especially when it's hot. We're enjoying it.
Larry has promised I still get my trip to England/Wales/Scotland and I'm going to hold him to it.
If you ever want to give RVing a try, you can rent one. They come with linens and everything.

  3. You're brave. I'm not a camper and I think an
experience like yours would make me insist on five star lodgings. Enjoyed your story!

    1. I don't want to tent camp. I do want my AC. And running water. Thanks for stopping by.

  4. We love our little travel trailer. We also have a bathroom with toilet and shower, but no sink, so we have a bit more room to move around. All in all, we much prefer our own bathroom to having to go out in the night in the dark to a campground shower house. We're heading this weekend for our first beach camping. Our dog Buster is going with us. He lives camping. Enjoy your times, Linda!

    1. I guess not having the sink would make it a little roomier. I imagine I will eventually get the hang of it. I'm with you, I'm not crazy about heading to the shower house though some are really nice. Have a great time this weekend and thanks for your comment.

  5. That sounds like a tangle. I have a few friends who have the large RV and my brother. He goes somewhere almost every weekend.

  6. The larger are so much more comfortable, but this small one is easier to navigate and park. Thanks for stopping by.
