We're Headed to Ireland—Any tips for us?

We've always wanted to visit Ireland, well, at least I have. Larry is going more or less because I've talked about it for years. I'm excited, but, gee, I never knew so much was involved in flying across the pond. Our suitcase can't be bigger than 30x20x10 and can't weight more than 50 pounds. Do you think our bathroom scale will be accurate enough?

I have some of those Space Bags so those will help. We bought our converter and adaptor plugs, our passports are handy. The travel agency gave us a backpack to put all of our carry on stuff in and I'm hoping my Mac will fit and not be too heavy. If so, I just may have to take two carry ons.

Deciding on what shoes to wear is going to be critical. One pair is comfortable one day, and not on the next. I have my compression socks so whichever pair I wear, they help some.

If you have any hints for this first trip across the pond, please leave them in a comment.

I hope you're reading lots of good books this summer. I have.

  1. How exciting! I haven't been to Ireland yet, but I visited Scotland. Traveling across wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I ended up paying extra for my suitcases because I don't travel light, but otherwise it was just like any other air travel. Customs on the other side was much better than on the US side. As for "electronics" I only took a camera, but so long as you can easily remove your laptop, you should be fine. I always carry-on my laptop to avoid damage, especially on a long flight.

As for shoes, I ended up wearing the same pair of walking shoes every day because they were the most comfortable, and took one extra pair that could go with all of my dinner outfits. That helped because shoes tend to take up a lot of space in luggage. Definitely pack light layers for this time of year because my Irish friends over there say that the weather can change every hour of every day. One good rain jacket is a necessity.

Otherwise, you sound pretty well prepared. Best of luck, and I hope you have a wonderful time!

    1. MK, I want to go to Scotland next. We didn't have any problems with customs except they took my water in Ireland, stuck it in some device and handed it back to me.

I had a terrible time with my feet and legs swelling. Wore compression socks but hurt most of the time. Hopefully I'll get that cured before the next trip.

There are so many places we want to see. Thanks for your comment.
